Humbly made with people in mind
What began with a friendship and a garage brew turned into a decade of making beer in South Dakota. Here is the short version, and the people doing it.
Our story
Beer is mostly an excuse to tell one
For as long as we have made beer, we have cared about the stories that surround it. There is the one about your trip to Germany, the one about how IPAs came to be, and the one your dad always tells that probably is not true.
Despite the wide open spaces on the Great Plains, we create beer that brings folks closer. That line has been on the wall here for years and it still decides most of what we do: a taproom with a kitchen in it, a beer called Lion’s Paw because of a saying, and a hop series named after wandering off.
Derek and Blake started it with a friendship and a garage brew. Since then it has grown into a brewhouse on Robur Drive, a taproom and coffeehouse on Phillips Avenue, a kitchen called Totally Rad, and a pizza shop under the same name.
Our people
Who you are actually talking to
Brewing, the kitchen and the taproom are three different jobs, so here is who does which one. If you are not sure who to ask for, start with any of them.
Press, charity requests and anything that needs one of them directly: [email protected].
We always have an eye out for people who are nice and like drinking beer. If that is you, [email protected].
Why they are called that
Three of the names, explained
Shy Giant
“I set my fear of the giant aside and found he was kind as his shoulders were wide.” Seven percent, and nothing to prove.
Lion’s Paw
Pluck a thorn from the paw of a lion and you will have a companion for years. A recipe that could have been aggressive, made smooth on purpose.
Curio
The small things that hold the past. A watch from your dad, a locket from your grandma, and now one that comes in twelve ounces.
Come and see it
The whole thing fits in one room on Phillips Avenue
Coffee in the morning, beer in the afternoon, a kitchen in between and a patio out the back. Open seven days.
